A campus for creative learning, where each and every student, whether in the dancer, teacher or choreographer training programme, is encouraged to find their own voice; a campus, where the individual is offered the chance to learn, grow, take risks and develop as an autonomous, thinking creative artist – this is the philosophy of the Palucca Hochschule. Building on more than eighty-five years of history, shifting and evolving with the times, providing an interdisciplinary dance education is the reason for being of the Hochschule since its inception in 1925. Built upon a curriculum of ballet, contemporary dance and improvisation, the individual lies at the centre point and is nurtured to explore all disciplines in a complementary manner. Our students and staff are working to break down the barriers between classical ballet, improvisation and contemporary dance – to not only cross-pollinate, but to interrogate, learn from and find inspiration for new forms of expression through dance. The dance roots in Dresden run deep. The tradition of breaking new ground, going forwards and not being afraid to experiment have been embodied by Wigman, Dalcroze, Kreutzberg, Palucca and through to our time with Forsythe. At the present time, we are able to share in this vision for dance with the Semperoper Ballet, Hellerau and The Forsythe Company and thus we have been able to set a wealth of new initiatives and co-operations into action for the benefit and enrichment of all. With a tradition of innovation, we are working to ensure that the Palucca Hochschule continues to grow and flourish as a vibrant, creative and exciting centre for dance education, from yesterday, to today and for tomorrow..
