Master of Arts in Choreography

The aim of this programme is to support the students’ development as a choreographer. The course modules are designed to encourage students to uncover and define their individual artistic voice. Students review and re-inform their artistic sensibilities and reflect critically both upon the creative process and the performance. The practice oriented curriculum is supported by investigations in theoretical issues that explore dance in its cultural, social, historical, political and aesthetic contexts. The elective course work allows students to pursue specific interests more deeply. In keeping with the tradition of the Palucca Schule, dance and music are integral components of the curriculum.

Students explore choreographic processes from a variety of perspectives and experience that choreography is a collaborative and continuous process of creation. The study includes regular residencies with visiting artists, excursions and ample opportunities for presenting interdisciplinary projects in a variety of performing venues. The programme is completed with the presentation of a thesis that can be presented on stage, as a film, a site specific project or as an interdisciplinary installation. Upon graduation students are equipped to meet the challenging, changing and multi-faceted realities of the professional field.
