Bachelor of Arts in Dance

Preparatory Programme (Orientierungsstufe)

  • physical-anatomical and rhythmic-musical aptitude
  • good performance at the secondary school, so that the student is able to cope with the demands of both school and dance training
  • appropriate references

Acceptance to the Preparatory Programme

Preselection is required for acceptance to the Palucca School Preparatory Programme Forms 5 and 6. Physical-anatomical and rhythmic-musical aptitude are tested, and secondary school qualifications are verified.

After successful completion of the preselection, the student is registered according to § 3 Sect. 3 and 4 SOMI by the parent or guardian. References and information regarding the previous six months are to be submitted at registration.

Registration does not mean automatic enrolment in the college.

  

Secondary School Programme (Nachwuchsförderklassen)

  • creative dance imagination, joy in dancing, performance talent
  • above average flexibility and a slender, athletic physique
  • musicality
  • a basic knowledge of dance is desirable

For those who satisfy the above four prerequisites, a final selection, as defined by the admittance regulations of the Palucca School, is required for acceptance to the Professional Dance course of studies.

Admission Secondary School Programme

Admission to the Secondary School Programme for Professional Dance is dependant on a high level of artistic talent and completion of the 6th form of a secondary school with the corresponding qualifications or a Gymnasium according to §13 Sect.1.7 of the Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of Saxony).

Candidates for admission must submit a written application (admission application/registration). The application must be submitted to the student office by the stipulated application deadline for that school. The application also needs to include the following:

  • a notarized copy or transcript of the school leaving certificate for the 5th form (as well as the school report for the 6th form);
  • a letter of recommendation for the secondary school or the Gymnasium;
  • submittal of a medical health certificate (sport medical specialist or orthopaedist) which confirms the exceptional resilience required for a course of studies in preparation for a professional dance career.

A candidate selection process is held prior to enrolment. Simultaneous enrolment in the same course of studies at several art colleges is not permitted.

  

BA Professional Dance

  • physical suitability,
  • creative dance imagination and choreographic expressiveness,
  • musicality,
  • preparatory training in dance which is the equivalent of successful completion of the secondary school programme at the Palucca School or the semester for which the applicant is applying.

Admission to the BA Professional Dance

Admission to the BA Professional Dance is dependant on the applicant exhibiting exceptional artistic ability and having a school leaving certificate from a German secondary school, or an equivalent qualification from a state-recognized institution as defined by §13 Sect.1.7 of the Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of Saxony).

Candidates for admission must submit a written application (admission application/registration). The application must be submitted to the student office by the stipulated application deadline for that school. The application also needs to include the following:

  • notarized copy or transcript of the school leaving certificate for the 9th form (as well as the school report for the 10th form)/ the German school leaving certificate or the equivalent information for the last term;
  • submittal of a medical health certificate (sport medical specialist or orthopaedist) which confirms the exceptional resilience required for a course of studies in preparation for a professional dance career;
  • curriculum vitae in table format with comprehensive details on education and training to date;
  • where available, documentation of previous courses of studies, such as study and/or test results.

A candidate selection process is held prior to enrolment. Simultaneous enrolment in the same course of studies at several art colleges is not permitted.

  

Foreign applicants

Foreign applicants need a current visa or a residence permit.

Applicants are required to submit documentation which demonstrates that they have undergone preparatory training in their country of origin which is officially recognized by the State Ministry for Science and the Fine Arts.

Students must have a sufficient knowledge of the German language.

Prior to matriculation for the Professional Dance course of studies students must have successfully passed the A2 level of the standarized German language proficiency test.

The Palucca-School offers language classes that support students whose first language is not German.
