Hiddensee/Sylt Poject

Every year since 1997, the Palucca School – in close co-operation with guest choreographers, painters, video artists and musicians – has organised a week-long summer workshop for its students with open-air performances and happenings under the motto of "Dance and Nature" on the Isle of Hiddensee. The students’ daily improvisation performances in different places on the Baltic island are attended by a large audience of summer tourists. The project is kindly supported by Insel Information Hiddensee and the Evangelical Parish Hiddensee.

Following their experience on Hiddensee, the students travel on to the North Sea island of Sylt. Upon the invitation of the Nordseeheim Klappholttal, performances take place daily at the beach and in the Ahlbornsaal. Guests of the Nordseeheim participate in an impro workshop.

The Hiddensee/Sylt Project is the School’s way to commemorate its founder, Palucca, who was very fond of the two islands. Palucca visited Sylt for the first time in 1924. She performed her last solo evening on 11 August 1950, here in the Ahlbornsaal in Klappholttal. Since 1948 she was a frequent visitor to Hiddensee, where she used to spent her summer holidays in her little cottage in Vitte.
