Palucca - Biography in a suitcase
An exhibition about the dancer and dance teacher Palucca
On the occasion of Paluccas 100th anniversary in 2002, an exhibition about her life was designed and handed over in 2007 to the Museum Hofmühle Dresden as a permanent loan from the Palucca School. The exhibition is displayed in seven oversized suitcases which modelled on Paluccas tour suitcases.
In 1924, Palucca married the merchant Friedrich Bienert, who worked in his father's mills. Trough her mother-in-law, Ida Bienert, the young dancer was introduced to the circle of Bauhaus artists. She opened her own dance school in 1925 with the support of her husband. The Hofmühle (Royal Mill) in the Plauen quarter of Dresden used to be operated by the Bienert family.
The exhibition on the third floor of the Museum Hofmühle Dresden was opened by the Rector of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, Professor Jason Beechey, on 8th September, 2007. Future plans for an extension of the exhibition include the display of documents and photographs as well as film clips and works of art.
