Secondary School

The Secondary School

The Palucca University of Dance Dresden has an integrated secondary school in which students between the ages of 10 and 17 complete a secondary school diploma. Combined with the required level in the dance subjects, successful completion of the secondary school after Grade 10 qualifies the student for acceptance into the BA Dance programme at the Palucca University. Students are also qualified to continue their education at another school.

The pupils’ education takes place in small classes (15-20 students) in the modern, very well equipped and attractive classrooms. The secondary school has one class in each grade.

Classes are held each day from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm and follow the full secondary school curriculum of Saxony. The timetable has been slightly modified to accommodate the daily dance classes. For example, Dance Theory is taught in Grade 5 (O1) as an additional subject. All elective courses are dance courses. Religious Education and Ethics are only allotted one class per week at all levels. The daily dance classes replace Physical Education, since sport is considered to be an integral part of dance. IT is taught from Grade 8 onwards. Geography and History are no longer included in Grade 10; instead Art and Music are on the timetable. French as a second language is included from Grade 6 (O2) to enable students to transfer to another Gymnasium (grammar school) if  so desired. The school has a training kitchen, designed according to the most up-to-date standards, in which the students learn the principles of a balanced diet in Home Economics and remedial classes.

Studying at the Palucca University means taking up the challenge of studying both academic subjects and dance to a high standard. In order to be able to gain and keep one of the coveted places, good or excellent results in both fields are necessary.
