The Secondary School

The Palucca Hochschule has an integrated secondary school, in which students between the ages of 10 and 17 complete a secondary school syllabus. Combined with the required level in the dance subjects, successful completion of the secondary school after Grade 10 qualifies the student for acceptance into the BA Dance programme at the Palucca Hochschule. Students are also able to pursue their education elsewhere, as they have completed the full Secondary Education Diploma of Saxony. The timetable has been slightly modified to suit the needs and profile of the Palucca Hochschule, with, for example "dance theory" being taught in grade 5 as an additional subject and dance training replacing the physical education classes offered in other schools.

To allow sufficient time for dance classes, religious education and ethics are slightly shortened, computer science begins in grade 8 and geography and history are not included in grade 10. However, french as a second language is added for grade 6 to enable students who leave the Palucca Hochschule to be able to integrate easily into other secondary schools. Being a student at the Palucca Hochschule means taking up the challenge of studying both academic subjects and dance to a high professional standard. In order to be able to obtain and then to keep one of the coveted places, good and even very good results in both fields are required.
