Corona Newsletter 16 from 30th May 2020

Dear All,

We hope this finds you all healthy and taking your precautions.

We were very happy to welcome back our N1 and N2 on Campus and as of Tuesday, June 02, 2020 our youngest ones – the students of O1 and O2 - will also be with us again!

On the basis of our health and infection protection plan that was approved by the Health and Safety Board we have been able to prepare and organize all with great care.

Some of you might already know that as a precautionary measure the Palucca Dormitory students were exempted from classes/trainings last week due to the fact that one of their supervisors had been showing symptoms of a cold similar to those of COVID-19 disease. So far we have not received any testing results, but nevertheless an all clear can be forwarded: talking with the responsible Public Medical Officer of the Health Department it was confirmed that even in case of a positive testing result all applying time-limits of contact restrictions have been expired. Therefore, no matter what the testing result will be, operation of the Dormitory and University with classes and trainings can be resumed and run as planned. The mentioned Dormitory supervisor is staying in home quarantine until it will be confirmed that there is no respective infection. It goes without saying that all contact restrictions and hygiene regulations in place have to be followed further on. Thus, the Palucca Dormitory still has to abide by reduced occupancy obligations.

We are continuing on a very reduced and staggered schedule in mini-groups. Exams for the N4 class and the BA Dance Programme students have been administered successfully. The preparations for the coming BA Works are running full speed and the trailer and images are already on our social media channels. As of now the presentation of the BA Works in our performance studio (Grüner Saal) will only be possible for a limited university in-house audience, brief, only students and staff of Palucca University of Dance Dresden may attend. How many may attend is still unclear. But as you know the BA Works will be filmed and will be online on our Vimeo Channel, shortly following the premiere, so around mid-June.

The preparations for the Dance Film for our Matinée 2020 are developing well and we are very happy that the Semperoper Ballett joined us for the project and will be part of the film contributing a program of about 20 minutes. The Dance Film Matinée 2020 will be online on our Vimeo Channel as of July 15/16, 2020.

As of Tuesday, June 02, 2020 the following rules apply as to the wearing of face masks in dance classes (according to the rules already in effect at the Secondary School): all students have to wear their masks until the respective dance teacher has placed them in the studio and allows them to take off their masks. Without face masks all students are under strict supervision of the respective dance teacher as to keeping distance. Right before the class is about to end all will be advised by a respective announcement to take on their face masks again and then leave the studio. The full responsibility that all students comply with the rules of social distancing and of wearing face masks lies with the respective dance teacher.

In order to give the students of the BA Dance Programme as well as the guests students N4 and the Apprentices the utmost flexibility for returning home towards the end of the study year (due to the current travel situation), classes and trainings for the afore-mentioned classes /groups will be optional as of July 07, 2020. The respective Class Leaders will put together a detailed list with the departure times of their students.

For the students of O1 up to N4 classes will run regularly and as planned until July 17, 2020.

This year there will be separate and small-scale graduation ceremonies for the Study Programmes. Right now we cannot confirm if with parents/family members or not or only in-house ceremonies. The graduation ceremony for BAT 3 and the Apprentices will take place on July 07, 2020, the one for the N4 students on July 17, 2020. Hopefully we will be able to celebrate outside in the garden area of the Campus. The graduation ceremonies for the Graduates of MAC, MA TP and MA DT will then be planned in fall.

The Administration is increasing their office presence to a certain extent as of June 02, 2020. The main objective still is to minimize contact in person as much as possible to remain capable of acting as to an eventual (suspected) case of COVID-19-disease. Thus, there still will be no office/consultation hours for the time being. We would like to ask you to contact the staff members by phone, via Skype or by mail. In cases of absolute necessity for personal consultations, please get in touch by mail before setting up an individual appointment in a meeting room that is appropriate. A big thank you to all colleagues of the Administration who for many weeks now have been doing their best to ensure everything is running as smoothly as possible despite the adverse circumstances – thank you for your energy and flexibility!

For our institution most of the respective Corona-Directives are effective until June 05, 2020, therefore we eventually anticipate updates/new regulations as of June 06, 2020.

To all of you relaxing Pentecost holidays, best regards,

Your Crisis Management Team
